How this calculator works — Pigment formulas are based on M grain as the reference. As the quartz grain size increases, the base of the material becomes greyer — meaning more pigment is needed to achieve the same depth of colour. Larger grains also have a naturally cooler, lighter base, so the calculator adds warmth to bring the finished result back in line with M grain. For L grain, +3.5 g/kg White is added. For XL and XXL grain, +3.5 g/kg White, +0.3 g/kg Yellow, and +0.05 g/kg Red are added. These adjustments are applied automatically.

Even with adjusted formulas, different grain sizes will always look slightly different from one another. The way light catches a coarser surface means the same colour can appear warmer, cooler, lighter or deeper depending on texture — this is a natural characteristic of the material, not a mixing error.

Always make a sample board for client reference before starting any job. This ensures the client has approved the exact colour and texture combination they will receive.
